EuroVelo 6 is a European biking itinerary stretching over nearly 4,000 km along the largest European rivers (the Loire, Rhine and Danube) and through ten European countries from the Atlantic coast to the Black Sea. 187 km of this itinerary are located in Franche-Comté.

EuroVelo 6 is perfect for family excursions, taking you from one discovery to the next along flat trails that are easy to handle.
In Jura, enjoy a first stopover in Dole, a town full of canals and old buildings including many listed as historical monuments. A short foray into the Forest of Chaux will take you to the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans, listed as world heritage by UNESCO.
In Besançon you will be greeted by the impressive Vauban Citadel, also on the world heritage list; after a jaunt through the city you will find your way back to the Doubs River to follow it along its lovely, verdant valley. You will pass through Baume-les-Dames and other very charming villages.
Then you will arrive in Montbéliard, the city of the Dukes of Württemberg and home of the Peugeot automobile.
The last stretch of the Franche-Comté segment crosses through the Belfort area, where you can see the city’s famous lion. Beyond is the Alsace region with its picturesque villages and half-timbered houses. If you prefer, you may leave Belfort and head for Switzerland along the francovéloSuisse.
